Short and Sweet: Saving is Easy

Believe it or not....it really isn't that difficult to save money at the grocery store. Give yourself enough time to do it right and be aware of what you are actually buying and you'll do fine.

You need enough time because if you go into the store and rush through the grocery store isles, you absolutely will spend too much money. You will buy impulsively and you won't be shopping smart. By taking your time and being aware of what you are buying, you will save money. You will be able to compare prices and you won't be shopping impulsively.

Take your time, shop smart and you will save money on groceries.

You Need a Grocery 'Pantry'

The best way to save on weekly goceries is obviously never to have to pay full price for an item. This means always keeping a stock of your most frequently used grocery items as well as stocking up on other items you will be using over time. You don't want to have to shop for an item at the last minute when you need it. If you do that, you are at the mercy of the grocery store and will have to pay what ever price they ask. If only you had purchased enough of the item when it was on sale. Hence, you need a pantry (or closet, or garage....)

Your pantry does not have to be a cabinet in your kitchen. Many houses built now a days do include such a cabinet, able to store hundreds of grocery items, but it is not necessary. Find room on the floor of one of your closets, or even multiple closets. Put some extra shelves up in your basement. Anywhere that you can store non-perishable grocery items will work as a pantry. I added a few shelves and use my laundry room as my grocery pantry.

Try to never have to wait until you need a grocery item to purchase it. If you can get the item for a discount of 30% or more, buy it and put it in your pantry. If it is an item you use, whether often or occasionally, and you are able to buy more than one item at the discounted price, buy more than one. At a minimum, I try to keep at least a one month supply of all your non perishable items in your pantry.

It is a great feeling to be able to just run downstairs to grab an item when you run out in the middle of preparing dinner. The feeling becomes even sweeter when you know that you purchased the grocery item at a huge discount and didn't have to run out and pay full price.

Where do I start to save money?

Where do I start to save money?

I found that one of the biggest problems that people have when they go to the grocery store is that they are unprepared. This is the type of grocery shopper that the grocery stores love. The customer walks into the store and wanders up and down the isles picking and choosing the groceries that they think they might need, buying whatever strikes their fancy at the time.

This is the perfect customer for the grocery store. The shopper thinks they might be saving money by purchasing some items that are marked on sale or using a coupon or two, however, this grocery shopper is not saving. They tend to buy more items than they truly need and tend to buy items that are higher in price. To really save money on groceries, you have to go to the store prepared. You start saving money on groceries at home!

To really save money, go to the grocery store prepared. Before you leave home, look through your pantry, your cabinets, refridgerator and freezer. Jot things down on a list that you know you need. Keeping your groceries organized in your kitchen or pantry help, but that's a topic for another day. You should also think ahead as to what you will be cooking during the week. Jot down on your list your general menu for the week.

You should also take the time to flip through the grocey circular. Check to see if any items are on sale that you either need now or are running low on. Stock up on the item while it is on sale rather than waiting until you have to buy the item full price. Jot these items down on your list.

Now you are prepared. While you are at the grocery store, stick to your list. Go get the items you need on your list and don't get sidetracked by the colorful packing and marketing that bombards you while you shop.

Stay organized, be prepared and save money on your groceries!

Save Money on Groceries

Saving Money on Groceries with Coupons by Coolsavings
If you have seen my site on tips to save money on groceries (http://www.abes-grocery-tips.com/) you can see that a key to saving money on groceries is to have plenty of coupons. There are specific ways to use coupons, which I will get into as I write more on my blog, but for now, you should start to collect grocery coupons. To get started, I recommend signing up for free grocery coupons at Coolsavings. (CoolSavings
). By signing up for these free grocery coupons, you will have access to hundreds of name brand coupons which you can print from your computer. The coupons often change and they are always adding new ones. I go on here weekly to see what's new and to print the grocery coupons that I need. Keep in mind some of the rules that I have on Abe's Grocery Tips site when trying to save money with grocery coupons.

How did she save money on groceries?

It was many years ago and I was coming home from shopping for groceries, and I had just spent way too much money. I was feeling like my grocery shopping trips were biting into my wallet and it was depressing. I had to figure out how to save money on groceries. I remember vividily as I was unpacking my groceries and watching the news. There was a special piece they were doing on a woman in New Hampshire that is saving money on groceries and had just bought about $200 worth of groceries for only four cents! Four cents!!!??? I almost dropped all of my groceries on the floor. How did she do that? Why can't I save money on my grocery shopping trips? I was now motivated to find out how she did it and to learn as many secrets as possible about saving money on groceries.

Since then, I have read about grocery shopping in numerous books as well as online. I have practiced and have made a job of saving money at the grocery store. I enjoy going grocery shopping now and look forward to my weekly trips and saving money. I hope this blog helps you save money too.
